The “Fiddler on the Roof” music of the Askenazy Jews from Lithuania and Latvia is described as “cheerful music in a minor mode”. Playing with Fire’s Klezmer band is the only one in Africa! It has presented several concert series of Klezmer music at the SA Jewish Museum and accompanied Cape Town’s Jewish singers in the Yiddish Song Festival in the Baxter Theatre for eleven years. It can swell from three musicians to six, including Cantor Ivor Joffe on vocals. The band has made two cd’s: “Cape Town Zing” and “Cape Town Shpiel.” See the video of a concert made this year at the Kronendal Music Academy on the Media page.
